Automatic System Updates#

What are automatic system updates?#

It’s a feature on your phone that automatically downloads and installs updates without you having to manually check for them.

Why are automatic system updates important#

They reduce the chances your data can be accessed, leaked, or abused. When there is a bug/flaw in your phone, there will be new updates to patch the bug/flaw. If not patched, someone malicious can exploit the bugs/flaws to read messages or files, access photos or contacts, and spy on you via camera/microphone. Moreover, these updates might be new features that enhance data privacy protection, such as restrictions on what data the apps can access and indicators for camera/microphone usage.

Steps to Turn on Auto System Updates#

1. Open the Settings app and tap System.
2. Within the System tab, tap Developer Options.
3. Within Developer Options, there should be a toggle switch for enabling Automatic system updates. Click that toggle slider.
